Picture of Beijing’s Skyline for a Year

Air quality charts, studies, and even fashion trends prove just how terrible pollution has been in China. Still, for many of its citizens, the issue just doesn’t seem urgent enough. So, to make it plain and simple, one Beijing resident took photos of the same spot in the city’s skyline for 365 days and blogged […]

Amazon.com Widgets

Town Run by Women Looking for Men

I’m sure many men have dreamed of an island completely populated by exotic women. Of course, fantasy is fantasy, but what if it were reality? In a certain regard, it is — in Noiva do Cordeiro, Brazil. It’s a scenic rural town in the hills outside of Belo Horizante with one big quirk, or perk, […]

Qianhai Means for Hong Kong

Just about an hour’s drive northwest of Hong Kong, in a corner of the bustling Chinese city of Shenzen, there’s a roughly 6-square-mile piece of muddy reclaimed land known as Qianhai that has morphed over the last three years into a busy construction site. The thrum of activity comes as Chinese officials are working to […]

The Great Chinese Exodus

Even when the emperors did their utmost to keep them at home, the Chinese ventured overseas in search of knowledge, fortune and adventure. Manchu Qing rulers thought those who left must be criminals or conspirators and once forced the entire coastal population of southern China to move at least 10 miles inland. But even that […]
